Jalal-Abad City Foodie Tour

We put a local twist on the regular food tour by going to family homes to try different local dishes instead of to restaurants. This allows you to not only to sample four different home-cooked local traditional dishes, which is usually best anyway, but it also provides you an opportunity to meet several families and understand better local culture. You'll emerge from this immersive culinary experience with locals with a deep understanding of Central Asian cuisine, including some Jalal-Abad specialties. Note: A vegetarian version is available upon request. Please let us know in advance.

Highlights:

  • Mash-Kordo and Manty (First Family): Be welcomed into an ethnic Uzbek family home and relax at the tapchan, a traditional Central Asian raised table. You'll have an opportunity to sample homemade mash-kordo (a traditional soup) and manty (dumplings filled with either meat or pumpkin). Be sure not to eat too much as we still have another family to visit and more dishes to try.
  • Lagman and Shashlik (Second Family): Enjoy experiencing more local hospitality at a second family home where you will get to sample homemade lagman (hand-pulled noodles with meat and vegetables) and shashlik (grilled meat skewers).
